The fibre produced by goats living in the Himalaya mountains, in Tibet and Mongolia. The part used, second only to vicuna wool as regards fineness and quality, comes from the coat of short soft down protecting the animal from the winter cold which is combed off in spring: no more than 120gr. per year. Its colour goes from white to yellow or light-brown. The fabrics obtained are characterized by their extraordinary lightness and softness as well as by the particularly small, complex and elaborate printed patterns (paisley). Can indicate a fabric made completely or partially from cashmere wool or from other wools which however imitates those characteristic patterns and the softness and lightness of the famous Indian shawls. →
Process carried by quickly passing the fabric over a flame in order to eliminate the surface fluff on fabrics made with discontinuous fibre yarns. →
